विभिन्न अख़बारों में लिखे हुए कॉलमों का संग्रह है-यह किताब! ‘निर्वाचित कलाम,’ ‘नष्ट लड़की नष्ट गद्य,’ ‘छोटे-छोटे दुख’ की क़तार में अब जुड़ गयी है- ‘औरत का कोई देश नहीं।’ हाँ, मैं विश्वास करती हूँ, औरत का कोई देश नहीं होता। देश का अर्थ अगर सुरक्षा है, देश का अर्थ अगर आज़ादी है तो निश्चित रूप से औरत का कोई देश नहीं होता। धरती पर कहीं कोई औरत आज़ाद नहीं है, धरती पर कहीं कोई औरत सुरक्षित नहीं है। सुरक्षित नहीं है, यह तो नित्य प्रति की घटनाओं-दुर्घटनाओं में व्यक्त होता रहता है। इसकी तात्कालिक प्रतिक्रिया हैं-ये अधिकांश कॉलम। एक-एक मुहूर्त मिल कर युग का निर्माण करते हैं। मैं जिस युग की इन्सान हूँ, उसी युग के एक नन्हे अंश के टुकड़े-टुकड़े नोच कर, मैंने इस फ्रेम में जड़ दिया है जो तस्वीर नज़र आती है, वह आधी-अधूरी है। लेकिन मैं चाहती हूँ कि आगामी युग के फ्रेम में कोई जगमगाती तस्वीर जड़ी हो। चूँकि यह चाह या सपना मौजूद है, इसलिए मैंने अँधेरे को थाम लिया है। मेरे इस सपने को कुछ व्यक्ति ‘साहस’ कहते हैं। ख़ैर, कोई भले कोई और नाम दे, यह नहीं भूलना चाहिए कि मैं इस दुनिया की सैकड़ों-करोड़ों निर्वासित औरतों में से एक हूँ। अगर मैं थोड़ी-सी अपनी बात करूँ और बताऊँ कि मैं या हम लोग कैसे हैं, तो यही समझने के लिए काफ़ी है।
