A Flight of Pigeons
The Room on the Roof was Ruskin Bond’s debut novel. It was written at the age of seventeen. He won the John Llewellyn Rhein Memorial Prize in 1957. He has published many novels, including Vagrants In the Valley, A Flight of Pigeons, and Delhi Is Not Far, as well as poems and essays. His short stories and articles have also appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. In 1993, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award and in 1999 the Padma Shri Award.
A Flight of Pigeons, Ruskin Bond’s classic novella, is set in Shahjahanpur during 1857’s revolt. It tells the story of the twists of fate and history, as well as the human heart. Ruth Labadoor’s father is a clerk at the British magistrates’ office. Her family flees to safety with Lala Ramjimal, their trusted companion. They eventually escape to Bareilly from here. Their plans are thwarted when Javed Khan (a fiery Pathan against the British), abducts Ruth’s mother and takes her to his haveli. It is not hatred that drives him during this wartime, but a almost fatal passion for Ruth. It will take months before they are free from fear, bafflement, and despair. This applies not only to theirs but also Javed Khan’s. A Flight of Pigeons, based on true events, is a haunting tale, rich in drama and detail, but told with simplicity, humanity, and deep humanity.SKU: PRK0143063223 -

A Matter Of Trust : India–Us Relations From Truman To Trump
Although I believed India was crowded with people living in poverty, cows roaming the streets, witch doctors, and people bathing in Ganges, I didn’t realize how important it was. It has been a long road from Truman’s comment to now. The US and India share the same values and should have been best friends. However, they found themselves in a vicious cycle of mistrust and resentment during the first decades after Indian independence. Meenakshi Ahamed, author of A Matter of Trust, reveals the insecurity and personal prejudices of leaders and the political imperatives that often cast a shadow on their relationship. Jawaharlal Naehru, India’s first prime minster, was a naive and insular American who saw India as the beginning of the cycle. But it was Indira Gandhi who brought India into the worst phase of its relationship with the USA. Nehru was declared a communist by President Truman, and White House tapes show Nixon’s hate towards Mrs Gandhi and Indians. The relationship between India and the United States improved only after India implemented major economic reforms in 1990s. This transformation was made possible by President George W. Bush’s 2008 signing of the historic nuclear agreement with Prime Minister Manmohan Sing. Meenakshi Ahamed uses a unique collection of presidential papers, newly classified documents, memoirs, and interviews with officials directly involved to create this insightful account of their relationship. It has wide-reaching implications for changing world politics. _______________________________________________________________________________’Meenakshi Ahamed has brought us a brilliant, important, sparkling and definitive study of a part of American history that is growing more crucial by the day. A Matter of Trust is a vital study of a crucial part of American history. It comes at a time when India and the United States are more important than ever and when many democratic countries around the globe are under threat. Michael Beschloss, New York Times bestselling author, and NBC News presidential historian. Meenakshi Ahamed brilliantly combined her talents as a journalist with her meticulous historical research to tell the story of two great democracies. She brings out the views and prejudices of leaders from both countries. It is a masterpiece. — Strobe Talbott, Former Deputy Secretary of State and President of The Brookings Institution’Meenakshi Ahamed has given us an authentic, thoughtful and accessible account of a relationship characterized by paradox and progress. She recounts the story of their relationship, in all its drama and with strong and unique personalities from both sides. The future of Asia’s century could be determined by the US-India relations. This book is serious and should be read. In a world of increasing great power competition, the Indian American relationship has become a key strategic issue for both countries. Meena Ahamed’s history of the relationship gives us a lively, engaging, and compelling account of the journey India and the United States has taken and offers a fascinating insight into the future. Meenakshi Ahamed’s labor of love is a tour de force that covers the complicated history of India and the United States’ relationship since independence. It is both scholarly and deeply researched, but also very accessible. The book reveals the conflicting personalities and sensitivities that plagued the bilateral relationship. What is the future for this unique relationship in an era of geopolitics that pits East against West? This book is essential reading for anyone who wants to prepare themselves for the new era of competitive geopolitics that pits East against West. A Walk to Remember
You stumble upon an amazing book every now and again. It may seem like many others but once you start to read it, you are amazed at all the hidden treasures. A Walk to Remember is one such book. NEW YORK SUNDAY POINT: Nicholas Sparks’ prologue to his new novel makes the presumptuous promise that “first you will smile, then you will cry.” But he delivers. His calculated ability to make you feel like a yoyo (try it out) Landon Carter, a well-meaning but shallow teenager, spends his time with his friends while trying to ignore adult responsibilities. Landon is then cast as the lead in the Christmas playLike John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany. Sparks manages to maintain a delicate balance of humor and sentiment that is rarely seen. Although the plot is not the most original, the boy-makes-good story will be loved by all. You should look for movies starring beautiful people. Or, you can snuggle up with your tissues and let your inner child run wild. Nancy R.E. Nancy R.E. He is the author of thirteen New York Times number one bestsellers. All of Nicholas Sparks’ books are international bestsellers. They have been translated into over fifty languages. Eleven of his novels were made into movies: The Longest Ride (The Best of Me), Safe Haven, The Lucky One and The Last Song. Landon never thought Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of a Baptist minister in the town, would be someone he would fall for. Jamie Sullivan, a quiet teenage girl, seemed happy living apart from the rest of her peers. She cared for her father who had died, helped animals in need and worked at an orphanage. Landon wouldn’t have thought of asking her out but fate had other plans. He was left without a partner at the school dance and he didn’t know what to do. Landon learned truths that many people spend a lifetime learning about love, giving and the pain that comes with it. Jamie would teach Landon the depths and beauty of human hearts, leading him to make a stunning decision that would set him on the path to becoming a man. . .SKU: PRK0751538946
