Sangharakshita, a respected translator and author who has written over 50 books, began studying Buddhism at the age 16 After spending 20 years in India, he returned home to England and established the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order. It has more than 65 centers around the world, including the USA.
One hundred and fifty people gathered in Nagpur to protest the millennium of slavery and degradation. They finally renounced Hinduism and its system of graded inequalities, and turned to Buddhism to find dignity, hope, and a path to self-improvement. As hundreds of thousands of others followed their lead, Hindu India was shaken as the Buddha Dhamma returned to its homeland. This historic revival was solely due to Dr. Bhimrao RAMji Ambedkar, politician and educator. He was India’s first law Minister and chief architect of her constitution. He is also a champion for her downtrodden millions.
