The Encyclopedia of Indian Philosophies’ current volume takes up Nyaya–Vaisesika’s history, where Volume Two ended in the 14th Century. Gangesa is the first to enter the literature now known as Navyanyaya (or ‘new Nyaya’). Gangesa’s landmark work, the Tattvacintamani (the Tattvacintamani), is one of the most well-known and difficult works of Indian Philosophy. This Volume provides the most comprehensive account of its contents to date. This treatise, which is approximately 300 pages long, was prepared by more than a dozen summarizers. This volume reconstructs NyayaVaisesika’s development over the next two centuries. We know the names of approximately fifty authors from this period. 36 of their works have been summarized. This volume concludes its reconstruction and analysis of literary history through the early 16th-century with Raghunatha Silomoni, the great commentator and an innovative analytical philosopher. This Volume is a short overview of the complexity of the period’s literature. However, it provides a basic understanding of the philosophical contributions discussed. The two editors provide a detailed overview of the ideas in the text. The gist of these materials is made available to the public by 22 scholars. The series will continue with Nyaya–Vaisesika’s subsequent volumes. Contents: Preface: Part One: Introduction to Navya-Nyaya’s Philosophy, Part Two: Summary of Works, Notes and Index.
