Ganganatha Jha’s Mualti volume Manusmrti was originally published by University of Calcutta in 1920-1939. Its subtitle is “The Laws of Manu and the Bhasya of Medhatithi”. This title is primarily an edition and translation of Mula text, with commentary by the most prominent. J. Duncan M. Derrett (one of the most respected scholars on Dharmasastra) has described Medhatithi’s Manubhasya as a vast repository of opinions on the meaning and some fundamental questions about Dharma and Law. The current work is divided into three sets: Sanskrit Text (Mula), English Translation and Notes. They are divided into three, five, and three volumes. All ten volumes have them. The (Mula Sanskrit Text) is the focus of the first two volumes. The first volume contains the first six Adhyayas, while the second carries the next six Adhyayas (Vii to XII) and an Index. English Translation owns the next five volumes (Vol.3 through 7) The Vol.3 contains Adhyayas II and III, Vol.4 has Adhyayas IV and V, Vol.5 has Adhyayas VI to VII, Vol.6 has Adhyaya 8 and Vol.7 includes the last four Adhyayas, IX to XII. All volumes contain a detailed Index. The last three volumes (8-10) are dedicated to detailed notes that can be used to help readers understand the Smrti. They are divided into three categories: textual, explanation, and comparative. These include many useful information.
