The Puranas contain a wealth of information that can be used to study Hindu rites, customs, and their evolution over time. The Puranas provide evidence of their customs and rites. This study is based on these evidences and attempts to determine the chronology for the Puranas. The book is divided in two parts. Part I contains four chapters dealing with the Puranic chronology. Part II includes five chapters that discuss the various stages of the Puranic customs and rites as they developed on the basis the chronology. Two appendices are included in the book. These include lists of traceable as well as untraceable Puranic verses that were cited by commentators and Nibandha writers. These lists can be used to determine the dates from which the quotes were taken.
