The Divine Matrix is a bold and scholarly attempt to create a framework that allows for discussion of these and other issues. This will help keep the interreligious dialog project from grinding to a standstill. Joseph Bracken, philosopher and theologian, first identifies the Infinite in this book as the transcendent source of human activity and the goal for all religions. The Infinite is not seen as an entity, but rather as an ongoing activity that all beings can experience. This idea is compatible with Aristotle’s notion of eternal and continual motion, the “act of being” (actus essentiali) in Thomas Aquinas’ and Meister Ecker’s theology, Shelling and Heidegger’s ground of being, and Whitehead’s definition of “creativity”. The divine Matrix suggests that the Infinite is understood as a nondual existence: an activity that doesn’t exist in itself, but only in those entities it empowers to exist.
