This book is a compilation of three main sources on Hathayoga: the Hathayoga Pradipika and the Gheranda Samhita. It was written in medieval times. However, it is a reproduction of three Sanskrit texts with their English translations. Gorakhanatha (a well-known thirteenth-century yogi) popularized the Hathayoga, or “Forceful Yoga”, which still has many fans in India and overseas. The Hathayoga’s most distinctive feature is its belief that physical exercises and purifications of the body, as well as practices related to the nadis and kundalini, eventually lead to the Samadhi, or supreme concentration, of the mind. The practitioner might also be able to attain the summon bonum of all things. The three texts together make a great explanation of the above theory, which is meant to replace the Gorakhanatha’s original text about the Hathayoga.
