Devadattakali (David Nelson), began his association with Hinduism as a child in 1966. Three years later, he became an initiated disciple of Swami Prabhavananda. He was a teacher of Vedanta under the Ramakrishna tradition and the founder of Vedanta Society of Southern California.
The Hidden Wisdom of Goddess is a long meditation in the form of novel. It follows the Devimahatmya’s basic outline but is condensed and expanded in freely imagined ways. The Devimahatmya is the teachings of Medhas, a seer who speaks in mythic language. This language is difficult to understand because it doesn’t contain all the necessary information. The Hidden Wisdom to Goddess conveys the secret wisdom of the holy man’s teachings in a clear, direct and concise manner. The majority of the book is made up of new scenes, incidents, and conversations between Medhas, his two disciples, the merchant Samadhi and the king Suratha. The main characters take on a new life as they become fleshed out. The writing continues to probe deeper into the mysteries of human existence.
