Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abul Kalam, b. One of India’s most prominent scientists, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born 15 October 1931. He was responsible for India’s first satellite launch vehicle (SLV-3), the development and operation of strategic missiles, their weaponization, as well as for developing and maintaining an indigenous capability in critical technologies. After serving a 30-year tenure with the government, he joined Confederation of Indian Industry (CIO) in 1996. He was the principal advisor from 2004 to 2010. He is currently an honorary distinguished professor at ISRO Bangalore. In 2012, he received the Padma Shri.
