Krishnamurti, the world teacher-traveller, spoke as a private person until the end of his ninety-year-old life. A fundamental theme is his rejection of any spiritual or psychological authority, even his own. The social structure and its effects on the individual are a major concern. In his talks and writings, he focuses on psychological barriers that hinder clarity of perception. The Collected Works, which consist of 18 volumes, are compelling because his subject is all-encompassing. Krishnamurti could not cover all of his vision in a single year. However, these volumes provide broad amplifications on particular themes. These volumes are where he laid the foundations for many of his later concepts. The Collected Works contains Krishnamurti’s previously published talks and discussions, as well as answers to specific questions, writings, and writings from the years 1933-1967. These are authentic recordings of his teachings. They were compiled from transcripts of verbatim briefhand reports and tape recordings. Jiddu Krishnamurti was the son of Brahmin parents in South India in 1895. Annie Besant, the then President of Theosophical Society (an international organization that stressed the unity of all religions), proclaimed him the World Teacher at the age of 14. The boy was adopted by Mrs. Besant and taken to England where he was educated. A new global organization was created in 1911 with Krishnamurti at its head. Its purpose was to prepare its members for the World Teacher’s arrival. After many years of doubting his destiny and questioning his own self-worth, Krishnamurti disbanded the organization in 1929. He stated that truth is a land without paths and could not be reached by any religion or sect.
