The Room on the Roof was Ruskin Bond’s debut novel. It was written at the age of seventeen. He won the John Llewellyn Rhein Memorial Prize in 1957. He has published many novels, including Vagrants In the Valley, A Flight of Pigeons, and Delhi Is Not Far, as well as poems and essays. His short stories and articles have also appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. In 1993, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award and in 1999 the Padma Shri Award.
He is a master storyteller and keeps his readers in suspense’–Statesman. According to legend, if the Himalayan smell gets into the blood of a man, he will return to them again and again. आपदा और पर्यावरण –
आज धरती की चिन्ता में सहविचारक होने का समय है। अपनी धुरी पर घूमती धरती के झुकाव में परिवर्तन आँका गया है। सूर्य के तापमानी चरित्र में मूल से अलग परिवर्तन को नोट किया गया है। जलवायु में परिवर्तन के ख़तरे को इन दो बदलावों की दृष्टि से देखना ज़रूरी हो उठा है। आवश्यकता इस बात की है धरती पर किये जाने वाले हर काम को विकास और अर्थव्यवस्था के उत्थान के लिए ज़रूरी घटक के रूप में न देखा जाये। भोग आधारित चिन्तन ने आज जल, ज़मीन, खनिज, जैव विविधता, वायु और आकाश को उपभोग की तरह देखने का शिल्प धारदार बना दिया है। बाज़ार की कुनीति और मीडिया का स्वार्थी गठबन्धन इस रास्ते में बड़ा अवरोध है। इन अहितकारी चालों को समझना बेहद प्रासंगिक हो उठा है। विश्व के तमाम देश इन्हीं दबावों के चलते कार्बन उत्सर्जन व ग्रीन गैसों के बढ़ाव को लेकर गम्भीर दीखते हैं, हैं नहीं। विकास, भोग और दोहन की गुपचुप संगत में धरती के विनाश का ताण्डव उभर रहा है। अब हर व्यक्ति को अपनी भूमिका तय करने का समय आ गया है। प्रतिरोध और सृजन का काम। हमें एंटिबायोटिक्स की जगह अपनी प्रतिरोधक शक्ति बढ़ाकर काम को अंजाम देना ही अपरिहार्य क़दम है। यह क़दम हम मिलकर उठाएँ तो परिणाम जल्दी सामने होंगे और अलग-अलग क़दम हमें विलम्ब के अँधेरे में ढकेल देंगे। यह साझा संकट है तो प्रयत्न भी मिलकर करने होंगे। अन्यथा प्रकृति को ग़ुलाम बनाने के कुत्सित प्रयास जारी रहेंगे और हमारी कर्महीनता को लेकर आने वाली पीढ़ियाँ पानी पी-पीकर नहीं, बिन पानी के कोसेंगी। सो इस विषय में गम्भीर होकर एक ज़रूरी नवजागरण में अपने को केन्द्र में लायें। धरती की पीड़ा को अनसुना न करें बल्कि सहभागी बनें।

अज्ञेय रचना संचयन (मैं वह धनु हूँ…) –

सिने संगीत का इतिहास –
देश में मूक के बाद जब सवाक् सिनेमा का जन्म हुआ तो उन्हीं सवाक् फ़िल्मों ने सिनेमा में गीत-संगीत की पृष्ठभूमि को जन्म दिया था। आज स्थिति ऐसी है कि सिनेमा में गीत-संगीत के स्थान को दरकिनार करके नहीं देखा जा सकता। संगीत न सिर्फ़ उसकी आवश्यकता है बल्कि एक अनिवार्य तत्त्व भी है, जिसके अभाव में किसी फ़िल्म का व्यावसायिक रूप से सफल होना आज भी सन्दिग्ध हो जाता है। स्वामी वाहिद काज़मी ने प्रस्तुत पुस्तक में भारतीय सिनेमा में संगीत के विकास और उसके विकासक्रम को बड़ी ही शोधपरक दृष्टि से देखा है।
