Metamorphoses
Homer is believed to have written the first European literature. Homer is revered for being one of the most important ancient Greek epic poets within the Western classical tradition. He is also credited with the timeless epic tales of Illiad (and the Odyssey), which are an integral part of Greek culture. Herodotus, a Greek historian estimates that Homer lived about 400 years before his time. He is estimated to have lived around 800-900 BC. Some ancient sources suggest that he lived near the Trojan War’s supposed time, i.e. Modern researchers believe he lived in the 8th or 7th centuries BC. However, some ancient sources claim that he lived in the 12th century BC. His role as a teacher to Greece was well-known, since the increasing influence of Homeric epics on shaping Greek culture was widely acknowledged. His speeches, which are approximately fifty percent speeches, serve as models for persuasive writing and speaking.
This omnibus, which contains Samuel Butler’s translations from the Homeric epics, is beautifully designed and bound in hardbound. It also features a ribbon bookmark, gilded edges, and beautiful endpapers. It is a wonderful addition to any library and can be enjoyed for years to come. Homer’s The Iliad (the oldest Western literature) and The Odyssey (the Odyssey) are important parts of Greek culture. The Iliad is a poetic description of Troy’s war and explains the events that took place during the weeks of quarrels involving King Agamemnon, warrior Achilles. The Odyssey explains Homer’s lively vision of man’s journey through the world. It tells the story of Ulysses’ “nostros”–his return home after the ten year-long Trojan War, and the fall Troy.SKU: PRK0140447897 -

THE RIVERED EARTH
The Rivered Earth is a collection of four verse libretti that Vikram Seth wrote for Alec Roth and Philippe Honore. It draws on a variety of personal experiences and literary influences and mixes translation and original creation. The first three libretti, “Songs in Time of War”, “Shared Ground” and “The Traveller”, focus on places such as China in the Tang dynasty and the Salisbury home of George Herbert. India is where Herbert returned in his late middle years. The fourth libretto, entitled “Seven Elements”, is about earth, water and metal as well as fire, space, ageing, and mortality. These poems span centuries of creativity and humanity and are accompanied by four pieces by Seth’s calligraphy. They pulse with energy, life, and the inspired brilliance the poet has displayed. The Rivered Earth is an incredible work. Seven books of poetry were also published by him, including an opera libretto as well as a book of libretti. He splits his time between India and the UK.

Shobhaa de ‘Give me bread, and make the poems the rich, sensual and kingfisher-coloured poetry that make Margaret Mascarenhas’ Triage.
