Maneka Gandhi was born 26 August 1956. She was educated at Lawrence School in Sanawar. Before she became a politician, she was a columnist and editor for a magazine. In November 1989, she was elected to Parliament and later became Minister of State for Environment and Forests. She also wrote three books: Sanjay Gandhi, Brahma’s Hair (a book about the mythology and plants of India) and Boulababa. She lives in Delhi with Feroze Varun, her son.
