This book is a significant contribution to the growing volume of literature on the women of India. It traces the women backdrop political, culture and traditional which the Harappan civilization the cradle of the women probings, had sprung. The question of women in India centers round the two extremes there is a strand  of thought that the women enjoy a very high status on the opposite extreme, in the present edition several points have been clarified. Efforts have been made to enquire the problems at a micro level.
