देस बिदेस दरवेश –
दरवेश देश और वेष में बँधकर नहीं रहता इसलिए उसकी दास्तान दुनिया की होकर भी दुनियादारी से कुछ हटकर होती है। वह निरपेक्षमी हो लेता है। क्योंकि उसकी ज़रूरतें ही कितनी?… मात्र झोली भर। गोया कि वह अपना घर कन्धे पर टाँग कर चलता है। इस घर में भी कितना सामान? ‘चन्द तस्वीरें बुताँ चन्द हसीनों के ख़त—बाद मरने के मेरे घर से ये सामाँ निकला’ की तर्ज़ पर कुछ अनुभव और कुछ ज्ञान।
यह तो सचाई है कि ज्ञान और अनुभव के लिए देशाटन बहुत आवश्यक है। हमारे पुराने देश और समाज में तीर्थाटन की परम्परा रही पर उसमें अनुभव, ज्ञान से अधिक पुण्यसंचय का भाव जुड़ गया। दरवेश की ‘अमरनाथ यात्रा’ व ‘गंगासागर जात्रा’ आस्था की उत्सुक यात्रा है… अनुभव के मार्ग का बोधरोहण है जिसमें अल्पज्ञता के स्वीकार का संकोच नहीं होता। यहाँ अन्धविश्वासों की परम्परा का अनुसन्धान नहीं लोक की आस्था का आचमन है।
आज के पर्यटन में जानकारी अधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण मानी जाती है और सौन्दर्य सुविधा से तथा सुविधा बाज़ारू दुकानदारी से जोड़ की जाती है। यहाँ मिलना भेंटना, जानना-समझना सीधे धन की मात्रा से जा जुड़ता है। इस तरह देशाटन या तो दरवेश की झोली में समाता नहीं या झोली ही फाड़ देता है।
देशाटन द्विविध कहा गया है—शुकमार्गी व पिपीलिका-पथ। पहले में धरती के ऊपर उड़ते हुए नीचे विहंगम दृष्टि डालते जाइए तथा दूसरे में क़दम-क़दम बढ़ते, ठहरते आसपास सूँघ, टोहकर आगे बढ़ना होता है पर संयोग कहें या भाग्य कि कभी-कभी चींटी पंखों पर भी चढ़ जाती है। ‘बिदेस यात्रा’ शायद इसी की बानगी हैं।
यूँ दीन-दुनियाँ से थोड़ा-थोड़ा निरपेक्ष दरवेश भी इसी बाग़-बग़ीचे का एक तिनका या पत्ता है अतः जानना उसे भी होगा कि इतिहास का काला पक्षी जीवन की मुँडेर पर आकर बोलने लगा है। उसकी कुटिल दृष्टि कब दरवेश के कन्धे और झोली पर जा ठहरे, क्या पता! यों यह यात्राएँ असाधारण नहीं है, साधारण ना ही इनकी विशेषता है।

कितना अकेला आकाश –
ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित श्रीनरेश मेहता का यह प्रथम यात्रा संस्मरण ‘कितना अकेला आकाश’ में भारतीय कवि द्वारा अपनी सहज सर्जक दृष्टि से यूरोपीय जीवनधारा को परखने की चेष्टा है। यूगोस्लाविया के एक छोटे-से जनस्थान स्त्रूगा में आयोजित काव्य समारोह में एकमात्र भारतीय प्रतिनिधि के रूप में सहभागिता करने के लिए भेजे गये श्रीनरेश मेहता ने सहज कौतुक से न सिर्फ स्त्रूगा को देखा; बल्कि वहाँ के जीवन, वहाँ के स्त्री-पुरुषों की गतिविधियों, भावमुद्राओं, मानसिकताओं और हलचलों की भी मन के कैमरे में छवि उतारी। एनी और बुदिमका जैसे सौम्य और बुद्धिदीप्त महिलाओं के सहयोग ने कवि के अकेले और सूने आकाश को दीप्ति और उल्लास से भर दिया।

मॉरिशस एक सांस्कृतिक यात्रा –
जैसे यात्रा के प्रयोजन विविध होते हैं वैसे उसके साधन भी अनेक होते हैं। आदियुग से आधुनिक युग तक यात्रा के प्रयोजन और साधनों में लगातार बदलाव आता रहा। आज यात्रा को सम्पत्ति अधिक सुकर बनाती है किन्तु उससे समय और श्रम को बचाया जा सकता है। विश्वग्राम और विश्वमानव की संकल्पना के मूल में यात्रा और उसके अधुनातन साधन ही निहित हैं। दुनिया की दूरियाँ मिटाने के लिए यात्रा ही सबसे अहम साधन साबित होती है। यात्री ही अपनी यात्रा के मकसद को हासिल कर सकता है।
मॉरिशस का माहौल ही ऐसा था जिसने लिखने के लिए बाध्य किया। मेरी यह धारणा है कि एक हज़ार किताबें पढ़ने से उतना नहीं पा सकते, जितना एक लम्बी यात्रा से। इस रचना का एक और तात्कालिक कारण भी मानना पड़ेगा। साहित्यिक सांस्कृतिक शोध संस्था, मुम्बई, हिन्दी प्रचारिणी सभा, मॉरिशस तथा महात्मा गाँधी संस्थान, मॉरिशस द्वारा भारत-मॉरिशस अन्तरराष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी का आयोजन करना और उसमें प्रतिभागियों के लिए यात्रा वृत्तान्त लेखन प्रतियोगिता होना। यदि यह प्रतियोगिता न होती तो शायद यह रचना भी न लिखी जाती।
अपने जीवन में मैंने भारतवर्ष की यात्राएँ तो काफ़ी कीं, जम्मू-कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी तक, हिमालय, शिमला, हरिद्वार और ऋषिकेश से लेकर त्रिवेन्द्रम, पांडिचेरी तक। लेकिन ये यात्राएँ अपनी धरती, अपने लोगों के बीच की थीं। मॉरिशस की यात्रा ही मेरी पहली विदेशी यात्रा थी। इसके पहले अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क में वर्ष 2007 में आयोजित आठवें विश्व हिन्दी सम्मेलन के आयोजक द्वारा मुझे निमन्त्रित किया गया था लेकिन वीज़ा न मिलने के कारण जा नहीं सका। मॉरिशस यात्रा ही पहली विदेशी यात्रा होने की वजह से ‘क्या होगा? कैसे होगा?’ को लेकर जिज्ञासा के साथ-साथ चिन्ता भी थी। लेकिन मॉरिशस की इस यात्रा को केवल लाजवाब कहना पड़ेगा। पहले जो ‘चिन्ता’ थी मॉरिशस के पूरे माहौल को देख ‘चेतना’ में बदल गयी और चेतना ‘चिन्तन’ में। यही चेतना और चिन्तन प्रस्तुत रचना की पंक्तियों में साकार है।

मोहाली से मेलबर्न –
जीवन के चित्र को विविध रंगों से भरने के लिए उतने ही अनुभवों से गुज़रने की ज़रूरत होती है। वे अनुभव व्यक्ति व्यक्ति से मिलते हैं, देश-विदेश की यात्राओं से मिलते हैं। दृश्य पर पकड़ जितनी गहरी होती है, रंगों की विविधता उस चित्र को उतनी ही ख़ूबसूरती प्रदान करती है। प्रो. मानव की नज़र में वह पकड़ है, इसलिए उनके लेखन में साधारण-सी घटना भी असाधारण बन जाती है। मोहाली से मेलबर्न का यात्रा वृत्तान्त इसका साक्षी है। एक उदाहरण देखिए— “थकान कुछ कम हुई है। पर संघर्ष कहीं अन्दर है। रिश्तों के रहस्य समझने की कोशिश में हूँ। अपनत्व-सा सबकुछ है, पर नहीं भी है कहीं।
जहाँ नहीं है, उसी के लिए चिन्तित हूँ। व्यथा की डोर गहराती क्यों जा रही है?
सोते-सोते बारह बजने को हैं। सर्दी की काटती रात के बारह। कपड़े हैं, कला है और मन! मन मेलबर्न की रोशनी-सा फैल रहा है।”
इस तरह छोटी-छोटी घटनाओं के ताने-बाने ने यात्रा-वृत्तान्त को रोचक, प्रेरक और रिश्तों की सोच को पारदर्शी बना दिया है, जिसमें सुख भी है तो चुभन भी है। सुगन्ध भी है तो बदबू भी है। और इन प्रिय-अप्रिय प्रसंगों/अनुभवों में से गुज़रकर ही तो हम जीवन-यात्रा को एक निश्चित अर्थ दे पाते हैं।
