J. KRISHNAMURTI, a spiritual teacher of international renown, was able to share his message for over fifty years with people from all walks of life. Many books were written by him, including First and Last Freedom and Freedom from the Known, and Last Talks at Saanen 85.
Krishnamurti, the world teacher-traveled around the globe speaking as a private individual until the end of his life at ninety-ninety. A fundamental theme is his rejection of any spiritual or psychological authority, even his own. The social structure and its effects on the individual are a major concern. His talks and writings focus on psychological barriers that hinder clarity of perception. The Collected Works, which consist of 18 volumes, are compelling because his subject is broad. In any given year, he has delivered over 100 talks. These volumes contain broad amplifications of specific themes, although Krishnamurti could not cover all of his vision. These volumes are where he laid the foundations for many of his later concepts. The Collected Works contains Krishnamurti’s previous talks, discussions, responses to specific questions, writings, and writings from the years 1933-1967. These are authentic recordings of his teachings. They were compiled from transcripts of verbatim briefhand reports and tape recordings. Jiddu Krishnamurti was the son of Brahmin parents in South India in 1895. Annie Besant, the then President of Theosophical Society (an international organization that stressed the unity of all religions), proclaimed him the World Teacher at the age of 14. The boy was adopted by Mrs. Besant and taken to England where he was educated. A new global organization was created in 1911 with Krishnamurti at its head. Its purpose was to prepare its members for his role as World Teacher. After many years of doubting his destiny and questioning himself, Krishnamurti disbanded the organization in 1929. He stated that Truth is a land without paths and could not be reached by any religion or sect. Truth is unconditional, limitless, and unattainable by any route. Therefore, no organization should be created to guide or coerce people on any particular path. My concern is to make men free, unconditionally. Krishnamurti traveled around the globe speaking as a private individual until he died at ninety-nine. A fundamental theme is the rejection of any spiritual or psychological authority, even his own. The social structure and its effects on the individual are a major concern. In his writings and talks, he focuses on psychological barriers that hinder clarity of perception. Each of us can understand the content and meaning of our own consciousness through the mirror of relation. This is the commonality of all humanity. This can be done not by analysing, but in the direct manner Krishnamurti describes. This content can be observed and we will see the difference between what is being observed and what is being observed. This division prevents us from seeing clearly, and is what he says is the root cause of human conflict. Krishnamurti’s central vision didn’t change after 1929. However, he continued to work hard for simplicity and clarity throughout his life. His exposition has been evolving. He used different nuances and terms to describe his subject year after year. The Collected Works, which cover all aspects of his subject, are of great interest. Krishnamurti could not cover all of his vision in a single year. However, these volumes provide broad amplifications on particular themes. These volumes are where he laid the foundations for many of his later concepts. The Collected Works containKrishnamurti`s previously published talks, discussions, answers to specific questions, and writings for the years 1933 through 1967. These are authentic recordings of his teachings. They were compiled from transcripts of verbatim briefhand reports and tape recordings. The Krishnamurti Foundation of America is a California charitable trust.
