This volume is about the history of Nyaya, which is one of six schools in which Indian orthodox philosophy is divided. Although elogici is often used to refer to Indian Nyaya in common parlance, it is not identical. Logic does not cover all of Nyaya’s subjects. It is not co-extensive. In this book, the author clearly marks the major stages of Indian logic over a period of approximately two thousand years. He has also traced the evolution of Anviksiki, the science and practice of debate Indian logic, into the science and practice of dialectics Prakarana Tarkasastra. This subject is treated in both historical and critical terms. Some Greek influences have been traced by the author on indian logic. He has demonstrated, for example, how the five-membered syllogisms of Aristotle made its way through Alexandria Syria and into Taxila. It was then merged with the Nyaya doctrine. This book is a pioneering work on the subject. The book has extensively drawn upon original sources. The work includes a preface, foreword, and table of contents. There are also several appendices as well as indexes.
