Laksmi Tantra

Dr. Sanjukta Gupta has a lot of knowledge about the early Pancaratra (Vaisnava), cult, and sectarian system. She was a professor at the University of Utrecht (Netherlands) for nearly twenty years and now teaches in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Oxford.
Visnuism was one of the main religions of the Hindus. The Pancaratra, the oldest Visnuite sect, is one such example. Its tenets have had a profound influence on later Visnuism, although it has not been fully explored. Even with corruption and change, ritual worship as described in the Pancaratra texts can still be observed today at many temples in south India and some in the north. The scientific study of these Pancaratra texts, which contain the basic concepts, can provide a deeper understanding of the history of the Visnuite religions. Scholars have long been interested in the theological and ritualistic aspects that the Pancaratra system has. Several texts have been edited. These publications have illiminating introductions and are of high quality. Because the Laksmi Tantra’s philosophical pronouncements include many of the sectis older traditions, the author chose to translate it. Another reason is its occultism which sheds light on a Pancaratra system not covered in any other text. She has not discussed ritualistic esoterism due to the book’s size. The Laksmi Tantra is the most notable of the many Pancaratra Agamic texts. It focuses almost exclusively on Laksmi. The divine creative impulse, intelligence and potentiality of the divine, as well as power, majesty, speech, and potency. Pancaratra philosophy, including cosmogony, is the main focus of this text. It also discusses the practice of yoga that is based on it and its attendant Mantra Sastra. The Laksmi Tantra successfully overcomes sectarian barriers by addressing the role of Sakti and the maintenance of the world.
