Nil Kanth Kotru was born into a modest family of Kashmiri Pandits. He had strong predilections to religious and philosophical studies as he was a young man. He was a manager at a respected commercial concern in Srinagar and had little time to care for his natural disposition. He was only late in his life when he was first introduced to Kashmir Saivism.
