The Upanisads are the final chapters of the Vedas. They are therefore called the Vedanta, or the Veda’s end. There is no fixed number of Upanisads. Darashikoh translated 50 Upanisads into Persian in his collection of Upanisads. Muktika Upanisads lists 108 Upanisads. Nirnaya Sagar Press has published about 112 Upanisads. Only ten Upanisads were reviewed by Sankaracarya and are considered to be authentic and authoritative. For centuries, the Upanisads have been called the inspiration of mystics. They teach that death and life are just different forms of the same thing and aim to release one from the mundane existence through the merging of the individual soul with the world soul through correct information. They are the foundation of all of the Indian philosophy that came later.
