The story of the historical Buddha’s earthly life is followed by a visit to each of eight traditional pilgrimages, which are sanctified by the Buddha’s Enlightenment, Decease, Birth and other significant events. The author also describes other important sites that are part of the Gautama Buddha story and has been rediscovered in recent times. He suggests where to search for those still hidden. He also talks about the difficulties that were encountered when trying to identify these sites in light of descriptions that had been passed down by Chinese pilgrims. He discusses the mistakes made at that time and how they have been corrected by more recent evidence. This book is the personal story of a well-known travel writer who has been fascinated by Buddhism his whole life. He presents his own view of the faith’s origins and evolution and offers answers to unanswered questions. The author also provides a detailed description of each site and a plan.
