TIRUPPATTUR RAMESHAYAR VENKATACHALA MOURTI was born to a South Indian Brahmana family. He attended Tiruppattur, then Tiruchhirapalli. His undergraduate studies were done at Bishop Heber College. After a long gap, he joined Gandhi’s Nationalist Movement in 1952.
Periods of major renewal have been frequent for Buddhism and its religious philosophy. This willingness to adapt the Buddha’s insights for a new cultural context is one of its greatest virtues. However, it can also be a problem for unguided Western students who are often lost in this wealth of ideas. He studied the Madhyamika School founded in the 2nd Century by Nagarjuna. It is one of the most important thinkers of all times.
