The Mahabodhi Mahavihara, which proudly marks the spot of Buddha’s Enlightenment, is more than an artistic structure. It is also a place for worship and meditation where practitioners and people have great faith. Bodh gaya is a place where practitioners, adherers, and belivers all visit to offer venerations to the sacred Bodhi tree or the Vajrasana, but also to meditate and seek that elusive peace and tranquility. Prof. Rev. Prof. Rev. Ryojun Sato has done an admirable job in writing about this topic. The book will be useful for both the readers and researchers as well as scholars who want to learn more about Bodh Gaya and the Mahabodhi Mahavihara. The current Mahabodhi Temple was constructed over King Asoka’s original stupa in the 2nd Century AD. The magnificent Temple was built during the Gupta era. It was finished in the 7th century. The stupendous gilded statue inside the shrine room was created in the year 380AD. It is made from black stone and is painted with gold, which is a recent practice.
