Jared Klein is a distinguished researcher Professor of Linguistics and Classics as well as Germanic and Slavic Languages. He also directs the Program in Linguistics. His works include The Particle u and the Rigveda (1978), Toward a discourse grammar of the Rigveda (Volume 1: Coordinate Conjunction), On Verbal Accentuation within the Rigveda (1992), as well as Indic Across the Millennia (2012). This book is the proceedings of the Linguistic section of the 14th World Sanskrit Conference in Kyoto, Japan, September 1-5 2009. His work has been centered on the Rigveda’s stylistic repetition since 1998. Elizabeth Tucker is Jill Hart Senior Fellow in Indo-Iranian Philology, University of Oxford. She teaches Vedic Sanskrit and Avestan classes and supervises graduate students studying historical linguistics. After publishing a book about an Ancient Greek verb class, The Creation of Morphological Regularity (1990), Tucker has published articles on Vedic linguistics and old Iranian comparative topics. She is currently working on Paippaladasamhita Kanda 11’s new edition. This will include commentary and translation. Oxford University Press invited her to revise A.A. Macdonell A Vedic grammar for students and A Vedic Reader.
The 10 articles in this volume are based on papers from the 13th World Sanskrit Conference Linguistics sessions (Edinburgh July 2006). They show the involvement of scholars with all aspects Vedic Grammar including syntax, semantics and lexicography. The articles are often part of ongoing research projects by their authors and thus present the entire field of Vedic Linguistics as it is being practiced at the time of publication.
