‘… a bold and critical critique of Western culture. –Fred Dallmayr in ‘Philosophy East and West”…illuminating…inspiring…a deep and searching attempt…’ –J.N. Mohanty, ‘Philosophy East West’
The Chandogya Upanisad. The culture it reflects, is distant and archaic. The texture of its contemplative and ritualistic symbolism is thick and dense-virtually an open book for us moderns. However, the language’s disturbingly modern resonances are revealed by a sustained, self-submissive attentiveness. This focuses our attention on many of our paths and also our possibilities, pathologies, and possibilities that have escaped our notice. This study is filled with a spirit of quiet hermeneutics. It illuminates many a dark spot in the text, solves many an interpretation puzzle, and turns many of its ‘archaic notes’ into living, compelling profundities. It is necessary to undergo a radical transformation, an ontological transformation. This study is not a mere masterly exposition of an ancient text. It is a ‘true springboard for new philosophical thinking fecundating the (the) twoshores: East and West. The three first (published) Vols. These areon: Isa Kena, Katha, Prasna Upanisads with Mundaka, Mandukya Upanisads with Gaudapada Karika Taittiriya, and Aitareya Upanisads.
