Glories of Srivijaya in Indonesia's History

The present work entitled "Glories of Srivijays in Indonesia's History" is an attempt to give a comprehensive account of the fact of the cultural set up of Srivijaya on the basis of a variety of original and secondary sources. Some aspects to the subject were undoubtedly treated by competent scholars in many books and monographs but a complete integrated study of all of them was not available in such a comprehensive way as to deal fully with this theme In all its essential formative trends and evolutionary courses. This led us to embark upon the present study. The most of this work is not a striking discovery of hitherto unknown sources, but a patient compilation and scientific interpretation of the information contained in the well-known sources. The study of the data collected from these sources, has brought into bold relief some little known facts of this important subject. Therefore, without laying claim to original discovery, we are content with advancing some new interpretation and suggesting some fresh approaches to the topic under discussion The work highlights the socio-cultural and political history of the Buddhist Empire of Srivijay in Indonesia from 8th century A.D. to 11th century AD. The social foundations of Indonesia which have diverse ethnic groups constitute 17.000 islands and covered a total area of 1,919,440 sq km passed through many phase of political, socio-economic and cultural changes. The umpteen social, religious and ethnic groups have interacted with each other and passed through the ages in the formation of diverse and unique culture of Indonesia It could be nightly called the cradle of Asian culture and civilization. There are doubtless some admirable works of individual countries of South-East Asia and the adjoining islands such as those of Burma.
