Two Great Epics The Lliad and The Manasa
The present work in a comparative study of the Thad and the Manasa from the point of their themes, plots, characters and the attitude to life enshrined in the two poems. Since both are epics, adventurous and sublime, with the central themes of war and love, a comparative evaluation of the two would not be out of place. While the Greek tale centres round the elopement of Helen, the Indian epic describes the abduction of the heroine by Ravan, the demon king of Lanka. Elopement abduction lead to war in both the epics which causes fall and destruction. The siege of Troy is paralleled by the siege of Lanka, the Greck and Trojan heroes closing together in mortal combat parallels the demons and the monkeys fighting with one another to both the epics the supernatural plays a vital role.
